WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item upgrading is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrader mod is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level upgrade (read more on Jujuy`s official blog) level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an button, which will display a preview of the item upgrader kit at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via several methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and numerous new features added. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from another set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
