How to replace audi key an spare audi key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

Ford-New.png1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, but i believe that i've completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i am afraid i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shut down.

The signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for audi Key fob the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when you're in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. They're cheap and easy to find especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi spare key cost, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the engine of the car is turning. If the sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and key between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the audi Key fob replacement cost 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
