Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a frequent and important way to improve the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item that they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using a professional or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrade components from items.

The amount of damage a piece of armor or weapon can absorb depends on the level of its upgrades. Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it should be heavier.

There are a variety of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. Certain upgrades grant armor an extra number of health points, while others make it lighter and more powerful. The kind of armor upgrade an item will receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, which is identified by the "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades change daily or never expire depending on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest option to upgrade your armor. It can be found by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive but can be found in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give significant boost to stats and are worth the investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to the max upgrade level will boost its defense. However, it can also affect its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The defensive boost gained typically isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells do. Some weapons have special upgrades that enhance their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples.

The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by finishing side quests, taking out a certain number of monsters or bosses, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

To upgrade a weapon, equipment set piece, or Whetblade, you must visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific number of Bars. The more bars required to complete an upgrade, the higher the level. The cost of upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a certain amount of Bars. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would reset.

It's possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. You should consider buying equipment that has low levels of upgrade, but high base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the highest tier bonuses and blessings.

The majority of players will make the most of upgrades to weapons they use most frequently to help them level up quicker. Additionally players, they should also consider upgrading the weapons they use with their squadmates to make them more powerful and effective. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to increase a stat or provide secondary effects in armor and weapons. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the level of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or through finding Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the gem it will give different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

The Jeweler is able to create all kinds of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones that require a certain level to get. Jewels can be substituted with another one without damaging the original. You are able to replace the jewel once within an Item Upgrader Mod of equipment.

The use of more jewels in a move will make it feel smoother and is typically performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels create an area that is stronger than steel, so the repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause damage as easily.

In addition to the above upgrades players can also acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be freely swapped, but they are not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits or aegis cannot be exchanged, and can only be retrieved through an upgrade extractor or salvaging with Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to give your character a variety of small, but useful benefits. They can be acquired starting in the beginning areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through doing road interactions. They can also be made by jewelers, and found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinket a player can unlock is the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost to movement speed and evasion. Then, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player can acquire armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be used in any type of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't in combat. This lets a hero be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the absence of strong slots in the team or talent tree which would normally be filled by a hero's top stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is particularly true if an Best item upgrader has multiple stats that you wish to upgrade, as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one crucial stat than two subpar ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red trinket at the start of the game. Mid and top players however they will select a green or a pink ward, based on the matchup. These choices can impact the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will find other trinkets that form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or defeating the boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the relevant achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
