World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade items increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the levels of the item. It's an indicator of the item's condition and its quality. Comparing items from a vendor's stock is possible using the item level.

On PC, you are able to check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, including its ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzards actual item level.

It's not the only thing that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can change its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded one time and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.

Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could be used to give the item additional damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade items menu pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another aspect that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. As with base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade items their gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that deals damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their items if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
