The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of the Best item upgrader's level is done. Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it is not successful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent, and every item upgrader kit with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrader (on front page) CORE client config.
