Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, but i believe that i've eliminated everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know both the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly if they're an Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

SEAT-Logo-2019.jpgA failing engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi q7 key's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is turning. If this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is a common component across the audi replacement key service near me A5 audi key replacement cost Fob (Https://Limitnumber0.Werite.Net) 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
