World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to boost the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade item, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade item track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

Item level is a commonly used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the item level. It's a good indicator of an item upgrade's quality and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done by using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories about how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the Best item upgrader. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods.

Players can upgrade an item with specific stats, or reroll affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
